Now you give us that right". and the day would come when somebody. resentful and indignant. would rise up and say. " Where are they who surrendered this right and power of the American people? Where are they who in Congress permitted this thing to be done? " To my mind it is simply ridiculous. and I am in hearty sympathy with the Senators who and the section of country that has this great problem at their door. It deserves the most careful consideration at the hands of Senators. and I am in favor not only of restricting immigration at the present time to the lowest point possible but I am in favor of closing the doors entirely. I am going to discuss this whole subject at length a little later on and give the Senate and the country some of my reasons for the position that I have taken.
