Mr. Chairman and gentlemen of the House. during the course of the debate on this bill it has been frequently asserted that the subject of immigration presents the most vital and serious problem that confronts the Anierican people today. and that upon the swift. certain. and correct solution thereof deoends not oNly the welfare of our people and the preservation of our American stock. but Mr. LAGUARDIA. Mr. Chairman. will the gentleman give the stability and perpetuity as well of those sacred institutions us the figures on the illiteracy among the natives of Tennessee transmitted to us by an intrepid and illustrious ancestry.
