I ant forced to the conclusion that this legal and illegal immigration from Canada and Mexico must be welcomed in these States and must be benelicial to these States. because there is no demland or request from any source for the stopping of it. and there is nothing in tlls bill that would prohibit the coming of this immigration. notwithstan ding tile fact that these States which receive a great majority of this Mexican and Canadian immigration are well represented on the committee and are actually in control of the committee. But I could not honestly charge that that in any way is respionsible for th harsh restriction on European immigration so as to give advantage of securing common labor to the States. I do kr m no serious efforts have been mlde by Members representing these States to place Mexico and Canada on the quota ARL5 basis. notwithstanding that such recommendation has been made by the Secretary of Labor.
