I believe. helpful for the public to hear the statements made by tile Senator from Massachusetts and the Senator from Utah . I feel that the Senate should. as soon as practicable. take up the large and important subjects of legislation which it is expected will receive attention during the present session. These subjects include tax reduction. adjusted compensation. immigration. expression of legislative will that the freightrate structure shall be reorganized with a view to reductions on farm products and commodities essential to farming and the elimination of the Pullman surcharge. There are many other measures which will require attention. and some of them are of major Importance. A few days ago I stated on the floor of the Senate that this side of the Chamber at all times has been ready and anxious to proceed with the consideration of these important measures as soon as the committees considering them have reported. Practically none of the measures mentioned. with the exception of the bill relating to the restriction of immigration. has been reported by a committee. Nearly all Senators on thir side of the Chamber. if not all of them. join in expressing the conviction that these subjects should be brought forward for action just as speedily as possible. While differences of opinion exist among us touching some of these questions. we are all anxious to have them taken up and disposed of. and we are not especially critical as to the order in which they shall be considered.
