Session #68 · 1923–25

Speech #680003812

Klarow. Referring to recent efforts of General Pershing to create a demand for a larger American Army. this letter exhorts American communists that they " must sound the alarm and prepire the workers for resistance to these bloody sclemes." Tis letter is addressed to the " Workers Party of America." sometimes known as the "Illegal Party." It is in fact the Communist Party of America. But inasmuch as membership in that party has heen held by our Federal courts to be sufficient grounds for deportation. tile Communist Party of America assumes the name of " The United Workers of America." The United Workers of America for some time past have published a weekly paper in this country known as "Tile Worker." A campaign has recently been conducted in America to raise a fund of $100.000 for the purpose of making this. weekly paper a daily. I hold In my hand an issue of " The Worker." under date of November 3. 1923. the anniversary of thdit day on which the Soviet Government of Russia came into power. As a sample of the socalled news which this paper is feeding out to the American public I call your attention to the followIng.
