This bill as it stands will lose to the service 228 employees of the department. nearly all of them inspectors. It seems to me it would be nothing short of a crime not to allow this extremely modest appropriation. in view of the reasons I have given. with the tremendous pressure that there is upon this service at this time. The total appropriation asked for by the pending amendment is $1.400.000 less than the estimated receipts of this bureau. the receipts from the head tax for the next fiscal year.
