The information that I have came from a conversation that I lad with the President. il which lie stated that the State ])epartment had been making a very careful survey of the situation over there. and that the American citizens in and about Smyrna are in a very bad condition. The burning of Smyrna and tile riots and the trouble on -account of the war made our citizens refugees. and they have been unable to find food or relief in any way. I thought it would be very important and necessary that the Government should supply their present needs. I understand that a relief cargo of food and other supplies is on the way.
