I believe in an individualism that gives a broad field for the genius and the enterprise of the American people. But I am opposed to a tariff system that will rivet upon the consuming masses the policies and the demands of greedy corporations who are not satisfied with a fair and legitimate profit upon their investments. The State of Connecticut. as indicated by Mr. OMeara. has built up great industrial corporations. and those organizations have employed pauper labor from overseas. and have paid wages which have been so low. as indicated by Mr. OMeara. as to threaten industrial servitude and have been provocative of strikes and industrial disturbances.
