With the great increase in population. largely due to immigration. a variety of industries were developed. History reveals. that even in countries where the agricultural. resources were the greatest. as the population increased the activities of the people became more varied. and. industries belonging to other categories than agriculture were developed. The question of transportation was an important consideration in the development of manufacturing and other industries in the United States.
