With a freight rate on the Cuban sugar growers of about onefifth our rate. and labor that practically costs nothing at all compared with what we have to pay in America. tell me. if you please. what chance the cane growers of Louisiana and the beet growers of the West have in competing with the conditions of that kind. American capital pays it. too. if you please.
