Session #67 · 1921–23

Speech #670230163

Mr. Chairman and gentlemen of the committee many people who are interested in the immigration problem and believe in restrictive laws have urged that. our examination and selection should be made in foreignports. Steamship lines and opponents of restrictive legislation argue for foreign selection Their reason for this contention is. easily. understood. but my main purpose is to explain to those who favor restriction whi they can not depend upon such. a. system. If I am able to stat these reasons in their full force I will in so doing. explain wh those who oppose restriction clamor for something other. thaI rigidly restrictive laws firmly enforced at home.
