Now. after that the author goes oii to discuss this proposition of bringing over hordes of iiiigrnts and litlt ing Ilem oil Anerican farms in order to settle up the waste places of the countryto brig them here to compete with the Aiierican farmerand states that that is the propaganda of those who believe in unlimited immigration. Everybody who is inforied on the question knows that is conditions arc now it is the easiest thing in the world to produce a surplus of agricultural products. and yet tile contention is to bring over iniuigratiou to reclaimi land and settle up tile waste places of the earth nl thereby compete with the Americamn farmoer. He gives a very interesting observation. that when you have an overproduction in the steel mills production is cut down. The samie is true of every other industry. But wlen you have it on the farm you conie and ask for unlimited inmnigrattion to increase production by cheap labor with which the American farmer cali not conpete and maintain his standard of living. .3975 I MA11 16. Must they always be last. thrown out of their jobs. run off their land. shouldered aside in their own country to make room for this plague of pushing immigrants? Must we try to solve everybodys problems except our own. and to work out everybodys salvation except our own? Or shall we go back a ways to saner and cleaner standards and strive to make this a country worth living in?
