Session #67 · 1921–23

Speech #670011414

In answer to the inquiry of the Senator from New York . I desire to say that northein and western Europe. made up of Belgium. Denmark. France. Germany. the Netherlands. Norway. Sweden. Switzerland. and the United Kingdom. would be entitled to bring in between 19.000 and 20.000 more immigrants than are actually coming. The average during the three years just previous to the war from those nations was. in round numbers. 182.000. Under the pending bill those countries could bring in 202.000between nineteen and twenty thousand morebut probably will not do so. as the Senator from New York suggests. However. on the other hand. from eastern and southern Europe. consisting of AustriaHungary.
