The creation of such a precedent as it affords will tend to legislation productive of isolation and to the retardation of our national growth. So far as the nationi prosperity of the country is concerned. this bill is bound to injure he mass of our workers who are skilled. It is admitted by every fairthinking American that what we need in this country is the socalled common labor. Again. the average American does not compete with what we call the unskilled laborer. Most of the work requiring the exertion exclusively of brawn and nmuscle has been furnished chiefly by the immigrant. Under this bill the unskilled laborer will not be allowed to enter. The skilled laborer can come in.
