Session #66 · 1919–21

Speech #660103929

The bill is of great importance. and I think there Is no objec.tion to it. The committee was unanimous in reporting it favorably. It passed the House of Representatives by a vote of 284 to 1. I believe. and its passage is recommended by the State Department and by the President. The purpose of the bill is to extend the present passport arrangements until suitable legislation in reference to immigration is perfected and passed by the two Houses. which ought to be done as soon as possible. but it will take some time to enact such legislation. I ask unanimous consent for the present consideration of the bill.
