October 2. 1919 : Whereas the German peace treaty and the.socalled league of natienm. covenant :should have been entirely separate instruments. but wert purposely made into a conglomerate in order thatthe peaceovin American people should accept the whole mass of entanglements ant obligations for the sake of speedily making.peace with Germany.. anc .*-Whereais our Congress has the power to declare the war at an end anc that a state of peace now exists between the United States and Ger lmuany . and $"Whereas the league of nations covenant is grossly discriminator. against the United States In ithat Great Britain has been given sis votes in the assembly while the great United States of America.ha. been -given -only one. even thoubgh our 25tates are more nearly isoy ereign than are the Thitish colonies.: and $ Whereas "the United States went into the war "to make the world safi for democracy. but as a matter of fact the league of nations make: the world safe for imperialism and autocracy. throttling the spreat of democracy forever. and "Whemeas article 10 and other articles. would compel the American people to send thdir boys to and expend their taxes in any part of the globe where democracy manifests itself as it did with us in 1776 in order to suppress freedom ail independence. even with shot and shell . ind I . � Whereas the league .of nabions definitelyi creates a superstate depriving. ithe United States of her sovereignty. impairing the prestige of .our Monroe doctrine.. interfering *with immigration and other internal policies . and "Whereas our beloved country has gained its power. its greatness. its wealth. and its prestige because of its. untrammeled freedom of action. and because of its adherence to Washingtons admonition to beware cf forelgn entanglements. and "Whereas we believe that the Uited -States and its people can serve humanity better by their free and inddpendent action ratler than by the dictates of a foreign couniil or assembly : Be it "Resolved. That we. the Legllative League 0f fNew York City. -some of the mothers of the country. affectionately twishing the welfare of our beloved land. earnestly urge that Congress shall declare to the world that the war with Germany is ended and hat a state of peace now exists.between the United :States and Germany . be it further "Resolved. That we beg the .Senators of the United States now debat lug our entering the socalled leage of nations. that they cast their votes for the good of the American people and defeat the ratification of the socalled league of nations."
