I may say. in a conversation I had with officers of the department which is taking care of this matter. requested that the appropriation be increased to $600.000 instead of $300.000. They stated that during the war. when submarines were afloat. they did not feel that they ought to send insane aliens. anarchists. and so forth. out of the country. They have now many they desire to deport. and they desire to deport them as fast as the question of the propriety of their deportation may be determined under the law. We have only given them a portion of what they have asked for. Very probably they should have more for this purpose.
