The anmount carried in the current law is $275.000. The amount carried in the bill that failed was $350.000. There was $400.000 appropriated in a special act for the Naturalization Service. Now. unquestionably the work that the service has been called -upon to do has been very laigely increased during the past two years. It was stated before the committee that the number of persons who are applying for naturalizaion has increased to a very large extent. and the estimate as I recall it was for $675.000. and that later was modified to $800.000. Now. of course. it is impossible to say just how much of this will be expended.
