Mr. Chairman. few men differ about the condition of affairs which prevails at Ellis Island. We are appropriating $600.000 here for the deportation of anarchists. We appropriated this morning $500.000 to help the Attorney General find these men who are opposed to our form of government and to our laws. It is useless to have a Commissioner of Immigration at New York away from his post of duty. He presided as chairman over what proved to be the largest Russian meeting held in Madison Square Garden a few weeks ago. It is true that he ws away several months from Ellis Island traveling in Europe. and the Department of Labor states it is not responsible for his retention.
