Chairman. there are a number of good women in this country who are interested In this work. and they have been cheerfully cooperating with the Commissioner of Education for a number of years. I think since 1913. in the distribution of helpful literature to mothers of the country. and particularly in the matter of home reorganization work. They have been laboring amongst the foreign born and with the less erudite of our American population. believing that it was necessary to aid the mothers of the land who may not otherwise be given that assistance in the care of children that would make. for good citizenship. I have been impressed by the stories of the accomplishment of the Bureau of Education. cooperating with these volunteers. I think the work has been inspired very largely by what Is known as the Mothers Congress. an organization of women who meet annually and who have been dedicating their services to mothers through the instrumentality of the organization over which the Commissionerof Education presides.
