Session #65 · 1917–19

Speech #650350180

Peratovitch and Demmert. Peratovitch testified that his father was in Austrian who had run away from an Austrian ship and had gone up there. and that lie was the son of that Austrian. I asked him whether his father had ever been naturalized. He said lie did not know whether he had been or not. He thought he had seen his first intention papers. There is no proof that lie ever was naturalized. and the proof is perfectly clear that lie never was. So here is the son of an Austrian. a foreigner. who claimed the right to vote at that precinct. He took the legal status of his father as an Austrian. and if there was no other objection to him that was a good one. and lie ought not to have been allowed to vote because lie was an Austrian.
