Session #65 · 1917–19

Speech #650321377

Despite the many racial strains in our blood we are a homogeneous people. The melting pot has. in the main. done its work well. I speak of those removed from the emigrant by at least one generation. It is to be expected that in an environment and in an atinosphere permeated with the view that women give offense by harboring the natural desire to exercise the right that marks men as free. many women will exhibit an indifference and some an antagonism to their own enfranchisement. As a rule. the man who expresses the view that the women of his State do not desire to vote sees in them only the reflection of his own convictions or prejudices and voices his hopes rather than his knowledge.
