However. at the time that bill was under discussion in the Committee on Immigration and Naturalization the question came up as to the status of alien soldiers in the different nations th~roughout the world. I took up the question with the representatives of the several countries throughout the world. requesting that they provide me with the oath which an alien desiring to enter the military or naval service must take. I also requested that they supply me with information on the following subjects: First. as to how the taking of this oath affects the citizenship in the nation whose army the alien enters.
