The Senator from Massachusetts offered an amendment. which we accepted. providing hereafter. except as is provided in section 11 for those people who had already come. we would not permit people who resided in any country which country had a law providing for double citizenship and for them retaining citizenship at home at the same time that they obtained citizenship here. that we would not have them naturalized at all. It was a pretty serious proposition. but the SeLiate accepted the amendment. I accepted it. so far as I was concerned. as I said to the Senator from Massachusetts. with some doubt.
