Speech #650175035

I recognize tie force of the suggeslIon iu regard to tile uniformity required by the Constitution. but I call file gentlemans atteltion to tile fact that for mnly years we llve had a species of this kinl .f wituralizatioiftlit (if i disclharged alien soldier. seamian. or marine. that has lached uniformity in the way that there is a difference in the period of time. Tilose were cases which. under tire strict coastructiou mrde by the gentleman. would be a lack of uniformity Elf imalralization. but the courts lve upheld thet. The inlin dlifference between this and tile statutes that have existed is tire personal status that they were granted a naturalizartion after discllrge. aind this is for the purpose of making till the statutes harlonize and uniform anI allowing theil naturalization inlependent oif a discharge. That is the difference between tile law as it exists and this bill.
