Session #65 · 1917–19

Speech #650174967

The gentleman has been talking about these aliens who are now subjects or citizens of certain of the European nations who have seen fit to join our military or naval forces. and stated that if they become citizens under this act those aliens of these foreign nations would probably be punished by their native countries because they joined our forces and because under the provisions of this act they became naturalized. Now. what I want to ask him is why that should necessarily follow. if they are not required to renounce their allegiance to those foreign countries of which they have been heretofore subjects or citizens?
