A Lutheran minister in my town came to this coun try when he was 17 years of age. I will give the hypothetical facts. He went to the State of Iowa. and moved into exSpeaker Hendersons district. where he sought the Speakers advice as to whether or not it would be necessary for him. who came here as a minor. to take out naturalization papers. It occurs to me that the Speaker told him there would be no necessity for it. as he would be a naturalized American citizen when he became 21 years of age. Soon thereafter the SpanishAmerican War broke out. and he volunteered as a private and went all through the war. after which lie entered college. Roaming around for four or five yelrs. at school. and preaching here find there. about six or seven years ago. or possibly five years ago. he learned he was not an American citizen.
