The surprising thing- to. me. is. that since war was declared not only these naturalizedl citizens of German extractioir but those of German birth who are not even naturalized. but who wish to be natu-. - 4914.. juft 10. ralized.. are standing loyallyby the Government. There -i� mr disposition anywhere. so far as I am aware. amongthose six or eightor ten- million persons of German extraction who are in. this country not to stand loyally by the country. They. have subscribed liberally to the liberty bonds. -and they have subscribed to the Red Cross fund. and they are doing everything that the native American citizens wouldbe expected to do. and it ill becomes any Member here to try to justify the sanctioning of such authority as is embodied in this clause. �
