Session #64 · 1915–17

Speech #640307773

He gave a most clear. vivid. and concise description of the -work done in the past by commissions appointed by Congress. Among other things he -said: Now. we have. in the last eight years. had seven investigations by commissions and committees. We had the Money Trust Investigation we had the Sugar Trust investigation . we had the Steel Trust investigation . we had the industrial investigation. we had the immigration Investigation. we had the Colorado coal strike.and the Michigan copper investigation. and the Post Office Department was investiga ed in the Sixtysecond Congress. We have had seven investigations and they cover over 100 volumes of testimony and hearings. costing countless thousands of dollars and to this good day there is.not.a single man. to my knowledge. who has ever read a Single volume of the testimony..and in the line of legislation practically nothing has been done. In my judgment. he is exactly correct in his deductions and conclusions with reference to the benefit derived from comnittee and commission investigations in the past.
