Session #64 · 1915–17

Speech #640183497

I have not a doubt of that. I am coming to that.- It is an additional argument why you should not jeopardize this bill by putting it up against the veto. because if you are a friend of the immigration bill and also of the childlabor bill. it is not necessary to jeopardize either by tying them together. for each is certain to pass if presented singly. Observe. it is proposed to add to a bill that is certain to pass. that is certain to be signed by the President. that is almost certain to become a law within 10 days if you keel) hands off.. a bill that is almost certain to be vetoed. so that both measures will be vetoed at once. for by adding one to the other you make them one bill. and to veto one the President must veto both.
