I have heard little complaint from any of themu when they have been called upon. as they are being called upon today. to bear more than their full share of Federal taxation. . In order that their situation may be understood a little more clearly. I want to call the attention of the Senate to the burdens which of necessity must be borne by the State of New York. due principally to its geographical position and also to the burdens which the people of the State have voluntarily undertaken and are pushing through with vigor and with success. as it turns out. not so much for their own benefit as for the benefit of the entire United States. : It so happens that nearly the entire immigration that comes into this country comes into the port of New York. and all the. enormous influx of immigrants who are bound for America and
