Session #64 · 1915–17

Speech #640072711

Mr. Chairman. I want to be heard in favor of the motion of the gentleman from Illinois to strike out the proviso. As I understand the parliamentary situation. the motion of the gentleman from Illinois is to strike out the following language: That the marriage to an American citizen of a female of the sexually immoral classes the exclusion or deportation of which Is prescribed by this act shall not invest such female with United States citizenship. Mr. Chairman. it seems to me that the provision ought to be stricken out. I had it marked in the bill to strike out as it stood. and. while I think it has been made constitutional by the amendment.
