I think the gentleman from Massachusetts is wrong. and wrong for the reasons he gives. Certainly we do not want people going through tile country teaching unlawful destruction of property. We have. as was said by the gentleman from California [Judge RAKER]. taken care of those who are political refugees. those who resist force with force. One reason which impelled me to support the proposition was to keep out the militant suffragists. who. oi the other side. burn churches. blow up buildings. and destroy mail boxes. We had the cooperation of every member of tile committee from the Pacific coast. and. while I do not agree with those good women on equal suffrage. I have never found an American suffragist that wanted to resort to the practices of the militant suffragists on the other side. The gentleman says that is not political. and that is true. and that is the reason for not claiming immunity. They ought to be deported. ought to be kept out if they come here to teach that lawlessness. The good women of this country do not want tile ballot if they have to resort to anarchy. bloodshed. and murder to get it. I believe the anendment of the gentleman from Massachusetts should not be adopted.
