There is very little land remaining in my State that would be valuable if taken up under any other act than this one. The stockraising homestead would be just such ranges. or farms as you may call them. as they have in the State of Texas. where a man may accumulate. say. 1.200 acres or more. and he could keep a bunch of. say. 50 or 60 cows. or something like that. or where he could keep 400 or 500 head of sheep. In one word. this is a measure that would invite emigration down to those States. and we need it. It would also put all these lands on our assessment rolls as taxable property. I have some figures here that are interesting.
