Session #63 · 1913–15

Speech #630424209

Why not import men to help us fight ignorance rather than import ignorance for us to fight? I am sorry this bill is not broad enough at least to exclude Japanese. Hindus. and other Asiatic laborers. The people of the East do not yet realize the importance of this matter. because they have not come in contact to any extent with this strange people from across the sea. California being on the shores of the Pacific seems to be a dumping ground for the undesirable from Asia. and I assure you the Hindu and the Japanese are the greatest problems and the greatest plagues we have in the West.
