The gentleman is entirely mistaken. the sentimental reason probably occurred to me rather than to anybody else. As a member of the Committee on Military Affairs. I do. not think it a good thing to have such a conspicuous building as that pointed out as a military prison. but there is not a citizen: of San Francisco who has expressed any opinion on the subject as far as I know. They are willing to have it there no matter what It is called. but the Immigration Service requires additional buildings and will have to have them. and in the interest of econ mn.-it is desirable to make this transfer.
