It was. of course. never In my mind to compare the normal immigrant from Europe with the Chinese laborer. Indeed. I had no discrimination in mind. which Involved anything more than calling attention to the fact that whatever might be the merits of the question as to the admission of Chinese into this country from the point of view of general public policy. the labor of the Chinese had been intelligent and extremely useful in many fields which they had been permitted to enter.
