Session #63 · 1913–15

Speech #630396534

Mr. President. of course everyone who has listened to this very strong letter realizes the absolute truth of all the statements contained therein in. regard to Poland and the misery which exists there. but the immigration bill has gone to conference. the conferees have agreed. and the report is now here in the hands of the Senator from Arkansas . whomI do not see inthe Chamber at this moment. I Will say to the Senator from Missouri that the vote of the other House .against the Belgian amendment was so decided that the House conferees could not yield upon it without taking the matter back to the House for consideration. and so the Senate conferees yielded. and the Belgian amendment went out of the bill.
