The Senator cites the case of a man who goes before a court to be naturalized. After he has been a resident of the .United States .presumably for four or five years he might well have some knowledge of oir institutions. but how these ignorant people coming from abroadand many of them. in fact. mostof them. are Ignorant of our system of governmentcan answer that question intelligently. or why they should be asked to answer it. I do hot quite understand. Of course. however. Icare nothing about it. I am going to vote against all of these propositions to open the doors to the people whose situation has been discussed this afternoon.
