There Is very much force in the suggestion made by the Senator from Missouri. but the Senator will remember that the figures I ain giving are taken from the census of those in the United States in 1910. and that this new immigration has been coming since 1882 in increasing numbers. I have no doubt the Senator Is right to & certain extent. but. on the other. hand. we have been receiving of the old type immigration substantially onethird of our immigration all this time. and it is just about In the proportion of onethird of the old type and twothirds of the new type. So we have a very large number from northern and western Europe. who have come recently. as well as from eastern and southern Europe
