Session #63 · 1913–15

Speech #630379260

Mr. President. the last seven words in the Senators amendment trouble me somewhat. and I will ask the Senator if he can suggest how the amendment. if it Is agreed to. can be made operative. The last seven words of the amendment are "if employed in good faith by farmers." Immigrants may come to the port of Boston. or to the port of New York. and claim to be farm mechanics or farm machinists or farm laborers skilled in certain farm work. If the requirement is that they must be "employed in good faith by farmers." how can they be allowed to enter?
