The bill is before the Senate as in Committee of the Whole and open to alnendment. If there be no objection. the committee amendments will first be acted upon. The first amendment of the Committee on Immigration was. in section 1. page 1. line 6. after the word " Indians." to insert "of the United States." so as to read: That the word " alien " wherever used in this act shall include any person not a nativeborn or naturalized citizen of the United States. but this definition shall not be held to include Indians of the United States not taxed or citizens of the islands under the jurisdiction of the United States.
