Session #63 · 1913–15

Speech #630211035

Had the Committee on Immigration and Naturalization done as you and I requested the last four or five years. all of these provisions would have been embodied In one and made much more liberal than they are now. and there could be no misunderstanding or misconstruction. For that reason I welcome this provision In the bill. and. of course. I would not object to the gentlemans amendment. rtalizing that he means well and that he at all times desires to aid and assist those deserving aliens who are willing to sacrifice their lives for their adopted country. were it not clear to me that it may endanger the provision as well as the relief contemplated by the committee.
