Session #63 · 1913–15

Speech #630174826

There is just as much danger to the American laborer in the importation of these goods as there is by the importation of goods made in~some eleemosynary institution in Europe or elsewhere. I hope that the gentlemen will agree to the amendment so that we may give real protection to the American laborers. We do not know of any convictmade goods coming into the country now. but we know of plenty of paupermade godds. or goods manufactured by what we consider pauper labor. We ought to protect our people from the insidious Influence of these goods in competition with American labor.
