In reply to the gentleman I want to cell his attention to the fact that I have here the names of 30 college presidents. which I desire to insert in the RECORD. who hive gone on record in statements that they are in favor of this legislation. It is also interesting to note that the present president of Harvard. Mr. Eliots successor. Mr. A. Lawrence Lowell. is strongly In favor of the illiteracy test. Many members of the faculty in the city of Chicago are among those. There are Profs. Breasted. Butler. Carpenter. Marshall. Moore. Strong. Williston. and Young. all strongly in favor of it in the gentlemans own city. A gentleman the other day quoted from Dr. Eliot as being against the literacy test. and yet I have here a strong communication from Dr. Eliot. or a telegram-
