Speech #630135950

Even though today we find the gentlemen! from. Alabama.. Mississippi. and Tennessee. objecting to immigration. I am of the firm belief that within a few years the people of South Carolina will realize- the grave mistake they made and will welcome among them these people which they now class as "undesir-. able." These immigrants have fully demonstrated in the sections where they have settled that they are honest. industrious. lawabiding. people. that they love the life. on the farm. and that they make most desirable citizens. However. until their worth: is recognized and they are appreciated at their true value. . do not believe that any community or any State or any section of the country should be permitted to offer inducements to theseimmigrants and seek to lure them within their confines.
