We have sections in our own country where 50 per cent of the illiteracy was removed in five years. Believing. as I do. in the protection of American labor against the competition of cheap European labor. a principle for which I have always stood and for which I still stand. I do not mean to exclude the foreigner. but. rather. to raise the standard of the immigrant.
