The average weekly cost per capita in the five State hospitals for the insane in Pennsylvania is. $4.35. although only about onehalf of the insane in Pennsylvania are cared for in these five institutions. This is a fair and. I am inclined to believe. a low average rate. The total number of foreign born confined in the insane institutions in Pennsylvania May 31. 1911. was 4.577. This number. at the average cost of $4.35 per week. reaches the enormous sum of $1.035.317.40 per year.
