Speech #630131864

Speaker. if the gentlemaf from lllinois who has just taken. his seat had not addressed the House in the vein ili which he did. I doubt if I should have taken the time to say anything on this rule. He read front the Denmcratic platform a provision which pledges to the country that the Democratic Party will not restrict tlhe immigration of those who are worthy and industrious and comle to our shores to find employment. I call his attention and the attention of the House to the fact that at the tiae that platform was written the country was enjoying the fruits of Republican policies. anld that the labor of our land was all employed at the highest wage that labor had ever received. Today we find ourselves in an entirely different situation.
