Mr. Chairman. whether the American people in Mexico are waiting for steerage passage to the States. or whether they are standing about in hot places. the fact remains they are in distress. When a itumber of people. withl. their at. are told to leave a place where they have gone to carve out for themselves a livelihood. and are told to abandon what they have there in order to save themselves from the assassins dagger. in order to prevent seeing all that they have lost. and they are told that their only safety is in flight. I say that they are in distress. When they turn from their homes. when they leave their positions. when they take their little ones and try to find a place of exit from that country. they are entitled to sympathy and consideration. and it grieves me to hear the gentleman from the State of Texas . the Lone Star State. the State that celebrates Sail Jacinto Day. the State where the Batle of the Alamo was fought. the State where there is more pride and more courage and more enthusiasm over all the battles with Mexico than anywhere else in this countryI say. it grieves me to hear him. in a moment of this kind. refer to those puaple with any such words as " stole" or " robber " or " thief."
